Sea of Thieves coming to Steam on June 3 with full cross-play support

The roster of Microsoft games available on Steam is soon increasing, with Rare today announcing that Sea of Thieves is coming to the platform on June 3. The pirate adventure game was originally released on Xbox One, Windows 10, and Xbox Game Pass back in 2018, and has since gone on to boast over 10 million players.

Much like other Xbox Game Studios releases on Steam such as Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and Gears 5, Sea of Thieves will come with full cross-play support with those on Microsoft platforms, since Xbox Live is integrated into the title. Progress will also carry over if an Xbox One or Windows 10 player switches over to the Steam version, though they will need to purchase this version.

The multiplayer title has been receiving monthly updates since its launch, bringing in new enemy varieties like Megalodons and ghost ships, multiple injections of story-based questlines, and much more. The most recent major update, Ships of Fortune, brought an overhaul to trading companies and delivered cats as pets, among other features.

Sea of Thieves on Steam will cost $39.99 to purchase once June 3 comes along. To those with questions, Rare has also set up a handy FAQ page regarding this release.
